Blaaaazin’! 0

Cool man, having the net at home is totally K-Rad!

But you guys all knew that! I’m the only lame-ass that hasn’t been able to get it until now.. But I blame that on circumstance. Bloody mofo circumstance…

Well anyhow, I have it now and its fucking fast, like 1.5mbit fast! I’n practice I am only really getting about 1.3mbit but i’m not really suprised as the performance figures are always a bit of a lie. Like “this car can go 5000mph!” and then the small print says “if it was strapped to a saturn v5 rocket and fired into a black hole”. Ok thats not the best analogy but its the best you are gonna get until I drink more beer. Still browsing with this connection is a breeze even if I am doing it on a p2 400mhz on the floor with no chair.

Other big news is…… I got some web hosting!!

Its with AceNet Inc in the US and its $9.60 US a month. And guess how much space I get………… 5GB!

Holy shit man!! Thats enough to host my site AND all of my photos with room left over for my songs AND my projects…. Groovy!

At first when I was looking at their site I thought that it was too good to be true but after checking them out a bit more they seem to be legit. I mean, if they were trying to scam me then really they deserve my money because they even had flash movies telling you how to set up all of your stuff on their servers which i thought was a nice touch. Also at the end of the signup process their computer system phoned me from Detroit and asked me to enter a confirmation code which went a long way to allaying my fears about them being dodgy. Can you tell that I am still not used to buying shit over the net? :) (Or buying stuff in general actually)

Their list of features is about a mile long and includes cPanel and unlimited MySql dbs etc but unfortunately shell access is disabled be default. This is not as bad as it first appears because they have full ftp and file manager support but still it would be nice to also have full shell access. When i tried to ssh into the box it said that it could be enabled if required so thats good. Now I just have to think of something that would actually require shell access because I am probably only gonna ftp into to update my files. cPanel has full ftp/cron/log/file browser/htaccess/everything support so i might not even need the shell in the end!

I picked a US hosting service for a couple of reasons.

Firstly the US has a really good connection to Australia via Hawaii so there would be no prob serving stuff to Australia.
Second, the US has a really good connection to the UK so theres no problem there.
Third the UK probably has a shit connection to Aus so it makes sense to put my site in the middle.
And last, they are REALLY cheap!! Webspace in the US is dirt cheap and so am I so it makes sense man!!

In australia it costs about a minimum of $15 AUD for ~150mb webspace. In the US its costing me approx $12 AUD for 5GB… You do the maths!

Yeah so its really cool. got my webspace. now I just need to set the mofo up with wordpress 1.5 and copy my old db over and we are in business!!

Wow, long post…!! See what happens when you have the internet at home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First Post! 0

Hey guys!!

Guess what?? I’m posting this from the (minor dis-)comfort of my own home!!

Yep thats right, Rox and I now have broadband!!! Yahooo!!!!!!

This is the first of a few steps that will need to be completed before Ashmodeus v5 is completed.

1) Get Broadband (DONE)
2) Get some new webspace
3) Install wordpress 1.5 (get it man, it is really groovy!)
4) Get a new computer

step 4) is only required if i want to funkify my site (which i will) but until i get my new boxen I will just use the deault wordpress templates (which are quite cool anyway)

So yeah, cool… internet, wifi network….. next step webspace!!

If anyone knows of a good and cheap webhosting place that they can recommend let me know!!

ashmodeus@gmail.com

How annoying! 0

Just found out the other day that the leak in our roof won’t be fixed unless the people who own the building decide that its worth it…

Since it’s gonna cost heaps and the problem only seems to be manifesting in our spare room I am not holding my breath about it.

Which sucks because the leak is right over where we were gonna put the computer! The lady knew it was there and still let us rent the place… Lucky we didn’t already have a computer or it would have been blown up by now!

Oh well, i suppose there is still quite a bit of room in the spare room… And the white plastic bucket on the floor is kinda stylish… :)

SLAAAAAAACK! 0

Hello my nizzos and nizzorettes, I am back!

include “sorryforbeingslack.txt”

(I got bored of apologising so I will just insert this standard text from now on :)

Anyway life is progressing well in Melbourne, I will give you a little break down of my achievements since arriving here…

  • Got a job - I work for the extremely cool Teragen International (www.teragen.com.au)
  • Got a flat - In the extremely cool South Yarra area
  • Bought heaps of cool stuff for the flat
  • Met Rox’s parents - They are cool :)
  • Met Rox’s friends - They are cool as well :)
  • Got all the boring stuff sorted (Closed my old accounts, got a new bank account/medicare/etc)
  • Drove to Horsham (Rox drove actually) and stayed over at Rox’s parents house - Horsham was ‘interesting’
  • Joined the gym (but didn’t go last week…oops!)
  • Did heaps of actual work at work!!!!

Yeah so I have been really productive recently! I am going to try to correct this current trend as soon as possible but that will have to wait until I have bought my computer and got the internet which will hopefully be soon!

Then finally I will be able to update this biatch and write updates that are more coherent than a speed freak on acid watching eraserhead backwards while sitting ten metres away from the event horizon of one of the black holes at the center of our galaxy.

Or something.

There are so many weird things here in Aus and Melbourne that I am really looking forward to telling you guys all about em!

Yeah so like I have said many times before…….

1) Expect many more updates….
2) Expect some groovy site changes
3) Expect the unexpected!
