Extroverted like him 7

I just found this interesting Slate article on Digg. Man, how is this stuff even legal?! The comedown sounds comparable to a lot of illegal drugs out there!

How a month and a half on Paxil taught me to love being shy

Having grown up in Australia I find the American preoccupation with mood altering drugs quite strange to say the least. When Rox and I went to New York for new years a couple of years ago you couldn’t watch tv for longer than 5 minutes before an advert would come on telling you that your 14 year old son needs to take pills because he is too hyperactive or emotional. Do you have trouble getting to sleep? Don’t relax of count sheep or aynthing anymore. Just pop a couple Snerdafil and you will be out like a light! That’s not normal! (Or is it?)

(That said, I would love to be able to be able get to sleep in under an hour but in my case my brain seems to reach maximum operating speed at about 12:20am so when I jump into bed there’s no chance of dropping off quickly. Unlike certain people cough Roxanne cough who seem to be unconscious before her head hits the pillow :) )

Anyway scary article. Also thanks to Smengo for bringing to my attention the fact that Dreamhosts DNS has asploded and my site wasn’t available. You win the prize!*

Threat Matrix 7

Have any of you guys actually watched the show Threat Matrix on Thursday nights? Man, that is the biggest load of bullshit I have seen since I watched the last US election!

The show is about a group of agents who strive to stop terrorists from blowing everyone up each week and is so obviously engineered to make stupid americans feel better about their government that it’s almost painful to watch.

It also stars the guy who plays Mike in Desperate Housewives. Man that dude is a fucking tool for taking part in something so bad. I mean, the intro goes on about how each morning the President gets a document called the threat matrix and how these agents save the world all the time and then ends with “We’re making progress” as if this is supposed to make you forget that most of the problems in the world seem actually started by the US in the first place.

Anyway, it’s bollocks and it’s sad but not suprising to see it being televised in the United States of Australia that I seem to live in these days.

Stumbling 0

Cool managed to detect the wireless capability of my DS using Netstumbler on my lappy!

I am planning to write a couple of apps for it to control my computer(s) from the DS. It would make an awesome little media remote I reckon. Imagine being able to preview movies I am about to watch on it! (Of course I could preview them on the telly but that’s not the point!)

To anyone who still reads this blog (smengy) sorry about the lack of comment approval that is going on. The default Wordpress spam killer is shite and keeps moderating everything. I have now installed Spam Karma again to try to fix this but it will probably just eat everything like it did last time.

Bloody software bollocks!

Nintendo DS in da house yo 0

Whoooo!! First post in a million years!

I bought a Nintendo DS the other day and it is seriously the coolest thing ever!

Although I like playing games I wouldn’t say that I am the most hardcore gamer out there cough Leigh cough but I still bought a DS because it has a seems to have a cool homebrew scene going. The console itself seems to be quite powerful with full 3d support as well as Wifi and dual displays (one a touchscreen!) and seems to be the mobile perfect platform for running little apps that I have written. One guy has already hooked it up to a GPS and got a google maps variant going, awesome!

Another reason I bought is is it looks dead shexy. Check it the pics below!

Brain Age

Playing the demo of What age is your brain, a really cool brain workout thing that comes with it

Brain Age 2

A closer look. I also bought Maria Kart DS the next day

This thing is already cool and will get even cooler when I get around to writing my own apps for it. Nintento Fanboys convention here I come! :)
