No, I am not talking about that dodgy Lego vibrator (staberator more like it) thing that dodgy man left a link to in a comment, I am talking about the yin to the software yang, computer hardware.

For some stupid reason I decided to buy a gig of ram to increase my ‘puter’s memory to 2GB. This may not seem stupid until you realise that I bought the RAM without actually knowing the model of my mobo or even if it supported 2 pairs of Dual Channel ram (not to mention whether it supported DDR1 or DDR2). Also at the time of purchase I didn’t even know what Dual Channel was as I have only bought 2 computers in the last 6-7 years and everything totally changes every 6 months. I mean, first it was paired SIMMS then DIMMS then paired DIMMS, wtf?!

Anyway long story short, I bought a 512 stick of RAM (the guy I asked about it had an older mobo that only supported 3 DIMMS). Then I bought another the next day. Because they were mismatched they only worked in Single Channel mode (bad) so I took them back. Swapped one for another one that more closely matched (didn’t work). Went back and swapped another one for another and tried that (it worked in Dual Channel mode, hooray!). Loaded XP no probs. Loaded BF2142 (Yeah got the demo!! Moments of brilliance marred by large helpings of bollocks). BF2142 starts freezing temporarily every 3-4 minutes. So does ol reliable, UT2k4. I start wailing like a baby at the thought of opening my computer again. Next day I open the mofo up and clean everything including reseating the gfx card. Load all the shit but still no dice (literally) as BF21439834 keeps freezing. Chuck a bit of a sad and have a rant about the general sorry state of computers, the world, humanity and wonder why the gods of irritation keep hanging out at my place. Open the computer, take out the RAM, start BF 34.53409734534 x 10e-3 and all is golden.

I’m gonna go back again on monday and swap the DIMMS for a 2GB matched pair and just keep the existing memory for when I give this computer to Rox. Farking computers!!

On another topic…. BF2142!!! What do you reckon?? I like it but, hey, I like anything with giant mechs with miniguns and missiles and drop ships and EMP launchers. The game engine has been improved slightly and the hell on eath menus from BF2 have been fixed quite a bit. It looks nice but it still seems really sluggish at times. Not sure if this is because there are so many players or because DICE are shit coders… Ahem, BF2 1.3 patch anyone?

Anway, it’s 3lite and I may even buy it but not if it’s a choice between BF2142 and UT2k7 because Epic are the bomb as far as I am concerned and 2k7 looks freakin awesome!

In closing. RAM sucks. Computers suck. BF2142 is awesome but also sucks. UT2k7 is gonna be tha shiznatch. I’m going to bed.
